Controls design

Historically, Turner Machine partnered with leading integration houses to provide the PLC controls and panel wiring for its machines.  We are now performing this aspect of our machines in-house.  The benefit of this change to you is that we now have more control.  PLC upgrades and controls additions, program modifications, and service calls can now be performed more easily than ever.

Not just PLC’s…

PLC’s are tried and true technology because they work!  But when it comes to data collection, recording, and analysis, there’s really no substitute for a PC.  Unfortunately, all too many of us have experienced the

“blue screen of death” associated with Microsoft Windows and are gun-shy of having our machines subject to these same problems. In a pure PC-based controls system, such a fault will shut down the equipment and cause expensive downtime.  To counter this, many companies are moving to “hybrid” control systems utilizing a PLC and PC.  In a hybrid system, the PLC controls the traditional machine functions such as solenoids, sensors, motor starters, I/O, etc. The PC then records what the PLC has done.  Examples of this would be recording load cell readings, LVDT measurements, serial numbers, bar codes, etc.  In this case, a PC fault results in a loss of captured data, not in costly downtime.

PLC’s or PC’s?

The decision ultimately rests with your particular application, preference, and budget.  The good news is that your list of options just got a little bit longer.

Ultimately, you’re the customer and we will use whatever system you specify and desire.  But your options and our abilities just got better.
